Special-event stations celebrate specific expositions, anniversaries and so on.
Moreover, ARISS school contact stations are guest-operated by non licensed elementary and junior high schoolers.
These operations have became quite popular, and many generate lots of activity. Both are eligible for a temporary 2×1-2×5 call sign with an 8J or 8N prefix. (Please note that the following stations also use an 8J prefix, but on a permanent basis: both Showa Base, 8J1RL and Dome Fuji Base, 8J1RF in Antarctica; both FO-20, 8J1JBS and FO-29, 8J1JCS on their orbits.)

Call signs and operating periods are subject to chage. Furthermore, having possibilities to be cancelled.

Information obtained from the web sites of JARL — HQ, district branches and prefectural branches —, local clubs, and so on.

7J - 8N Stations Categorization

The following is not a written policy, but a follow-up categorization by the author. 8K and 8L are not used yet.
